Minisymposia Application Deadline Extended to November 30, 2017!
Due to many requests for an extension of the deadline the ECMTB 2018 organizers have agreed to extend the deadline for Minisymposia Application.
IMPORTANT: submission and presentation of oral communication is limited to one per participant, although a participant may be a co-author of other communications.
Acceptance Notification: January 15, 2018
Due to the deadline extension for MS submission, the acceptance notification is postponed to January 20, 2018.
Minisymposia application is now closed! Template is available below.
A minisymposium (MS) will consist of four or five 20 minute presentations (each with 5 minutes for discussion) on a single topic of substantial current interest and importance in Mathematical and Theoretical Biology and its applications.
Note that the number of MS is limited and restricted to ONE submission per organizer.
A single organizer and optional co-organizer will choose the topic, identify and contact speakers to obtain their agreement to participate. Organizers are especially encouraged to include speakers from multiple countries and from underrepresented groups.
Prospective minisymposium organizers should consider the following recommendations when selecting speakers in a minisymposium:
1- Speakers should be selected primarily for their current contributions to the topic area, and to cover multiple perspectives on that topic.
2- The first speaker should provide an overview of the topic area, put the whole area in perspective, particularly with regard to applications, and suggest new venues for continued research and application.
3- Minisymposia in which most of the speakers come from the same organization or are coauthors on the presentations are discouraged.
Please use your personal area* for Minisymposium (MS) submission and remember to comply with the submission deadline. Note that registration is required for any participant including invited speakers of minisymposia. The template can be found below, available for download.
When preparing your MS file for submission, please use the latex class ecmtb2018MS.cls (do not change this file) and modify freely the template file Minisymposium_ECMTB18.tex. Put both files in the same folder and compile the tex with pdflatex. If there are no errors, upload ONLY the tex file in your personal area, indicating Minisymposium as your preferred type of presentation and save. Label file with MS- followed by your first and last name: “MS-firstlastnameoforganizer.tex”.
In case you have any difficulties with tex, you could use the help of a colleague in your institution or, if necessary, the help of our colleague Fabio Chalub, facc@fct.unl.pt. In case you are not able to use tex at all, you can send, for submission purposes, a provisional word or odt file with the same content, trying to roughly approximate the same format (see file Minisymposium_ECMTB18.pdf). If the minisymposium is selected, the provisional file will later have to be replaced by a tex file to be used in the preparation of the Book of Abstracts.
* Note that the introduction of the names of the MS Organizer and the possible Co-organizer during the MS application can be done automatically by searching for the participants who are already registered for the conference. If you have a co-organizer and (s)he is not yet registered in our platform, a “new author” must be created in the abstract submission area.
